Cetylpyridinium chloride helps relieve symptoms of sore throat and bacterial infections of the mouth. It may also be used to help freshen your breath or prevent the formation of plaque.
This medicine may also be used as part of your daily mouth hygiene and after dental work.
Use Cetylpyridinium chloride exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine is available as a solution for mouthwash or gargle.
To use the solution for mouthwash or gargle, rinse the mouth or gargle for about 30 seconds before spitting out. Do not swallow the solution. There is no need to dilute it with water.
Avoid any contact of the solution with your eyes. Rinse immediately with water if this medicine accidentally gets into your eyes. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyesight.
Cetylpyridinium chloride is not intended to replace regular brushing or flossing of the teeth.
Inform your doctor immediately if you accidentally swallowed a large amount of this medicine, or if certain symptoms such as bleeding or swollen gums persist for more than 2 weeks.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Cetylpyridinium chloride to a child. Children around 6-12 years using the mouthwash must be supervised by adults as they may be at risk of swallowing it.
Cetylpyridinium chloride may cause any of the following side effects: mouth irritation and temporary staining of the teeth or tongue.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Protect from light.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
